cold

I will not be cold this winter…

Cold confronts unfilled desire, the want and longing to be someone else: someone prettier, someone more glamorous, someone from somewhere else. Cold is a series of photographs that explore the relevance of place and home in the formation of identity.

The photographs play on stereotypes of small towns being boring. Seventy-foot dull blondes and vacant, shy, femme fatale inhabit a gray, snow-covered city drinking tea or beer. They hangout, cower, hover, pose, in their slips and high-heels, alone.

"These digitally modified photographs which make for a humorous and unusual depiction of the way that some women, arguably, view themselves in a society dictated by stereotypical role models…This hybrid of femme-fatale meets hoser may on the surface appear unorthodox, but is actually quite typical of a Canadian artist’s tongue-in-cheek reworking of established counter icons."
