Mammoth

2021

Mammoth is a video that provocatively explores aging, sexuality and futurism in the age of extinction.

Based on experimental text, the piece features three characters whose stories echo each other. The anchor of the story is a female embodied voice who refuses to die through physical and material time.

From the last woolly mammoth who lives on a weather scabbed island, to a socially isolated woman who struggles with mental health, to a sex doll robot in the future, three characters respond to each other and embark on a voyage to the heart of the inexplicable.

Mammoth . From the last woolly mammoth who lives on a weather scabbed island, to a socially isolated woman who struggles with mental health, and a sex doll robot in the future, Mammoth is an art video that explores aging, sexuality and futurism in the age of extinction. Based on experimental text, the piece features characters whose stories echo each other. The anchor of the story is a female embodied voice who refuses to die through physical and material time. The piece is based on the stage version that was created for the Festival of New Dance in 2019. I’ve also launched a new #sparkar #filter #brokenrobot that I created for the #brokenrobot portion of this video. You can find it under the happy face in the menu. #grosmorne #tablelands #climatechange #mentalhealth #contemporaryart #canadianart #digitaloriginals #digitaloriginals2020 #canadacounciforthearts #andreacooper #artist #videoart #performanceart #experimental #artoftheday #contemporaryartist #instaart #art #sparkar #mammoth #robot #futurism #extinction #woolymammoth #isolation #madness #longing #desire #makebelieve #mammoth #andreacooper Copyright © Andrea Cooper 2020-2021 Sound: Justin Merdsoy and Lori Clarke Gros Morne Camera: Rhonda Buckley Funded by the Canada Council for the Arts CBC Digital Originals 2020
